One of my friends refers to it as a “neighborhood of neighbors.” Like it or not, it’s rapidly becoming a “subdivision of subdivisions!” Occasionally referred to as “Mountaire Forest”, “Ferry Heights”, “Long Island Estates”, “Underwood Hills” and Heaven only knows what else, Mountaire Springs comprises about 350 homes, including dozens of newer homes in Windsor Pointe, Long Island Preserve and The Enclave.
Mountaire Springs, or “Mountaire” for short, is located in Sandy Springs about a mile outside the Perimeter. Roughly bordered by Johnson Ferry Road to the northeast, the public and commercial properties to the east along Sandy Springs Place, the church and memorial gardens along Mt. Vernon Highway to the southeast, and the River Shore Estates and Riverside subdivisions to the southwest and northwest, Mountaire was originally built between 1953 and 1960 as modern-style ranch homes. Redevelopment has been occurring in Mountaire since 2000. Mountaire encompasses Ferry Drive, Angus Trail, Bonnie Lane, Windsor Cove, Long Island Court, Long Island Place, Preswyck Way, Long Island Drive, Underwood Drive, Colebridge Road, Scott Valley Road, Burdett Drive, Bridgewood Valley Road, Colewood Court and several of the homes on Colewood Way.
Mountaire’s coveted location makes it the closest subdivision to City Springs — the town center of North Fulton County’s city of Sandy Springs. A short stroll, roll or ride gets Mountaire residents to the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, City Green, shopping, dining, indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities, a seasonal farmer’s market, Sandy Springs City Hall and more.
Residents and non-residents alike have the option of joining Mountaire Park, a swimming pool facility on Bonnie Lane south of Long Island Court. The pool is open typically from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend every year, featuring lifeguards on duty, a competitive swim team, and fun family social activities. Don’t dilly-dally, though… memberships sell out fast!
The Epstein School, a Jewish day school located on Colewood Way in Mountaire Springs, offers integrated, dual-language learning that cultivates lifelong skills, inspires Jewish identity, and nurtures curiosity, critical thinking and creativity, and is led by specialized STEAM and Hebrew language programs.
The public Fulton County School System’s award-winning Heards Ferry Elementary, Ridgeview Charter Middle, and Riverwood International Charter High serve Mountaire children and parents.
